It's that time of the year again . . . Spring Concert Time! We, here at the Milton Adventist Church, are so privileged to have the WWU Singers here with us. There truly is something special about the power of music. We first noticed that power with Isaiah when he was younger. Whenever he would fuss or was not enjoying life, music had a noticeable and powerful effect on him.
Listen to this thought by Hans Christian Andersen, "Where words fail, music speaks." Sarah Dessen adds this thought: "Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common." To ask the question of why music is so powerful would be the wrong question to ask. A better question is how does music unite, empower, and strengthen human life?
Easy. It just does! My son and I went to an NBA game in Milwaukee this spring break. While we were there the DJ was blasting known music throughout the auditorium. As I sat there watching and listening, I honestly have never heard most of the songs that were being played by the DJ. But every once in a while, he would play an old song that would resonate with the entire crowd. Everyone would sing, laugh and even cry! That sound that everyone knew just moved the entire auditorium.
Why? Because music speaks where words fail to make an impact. This Sabbath, may you and your family enjoy the power of music and the message it brings for your spirituality. May you find the truism that was once spoken by Beethoven when he said, "Music is the divine messenger between heaven and the human."
So, until the next time, this is Pastor Tello reminding you that thoughts do change lives!
